When is you car service due?

Servicing schedules vary by manufacturer, model and year and remembering or knowing when your car is due a service is not always easy or obvious. You might get a letter from your local garage or franchised dealer, your on-board computer might flash up a ‘Service Due’ warning note, or you might not receive any notifications at all.

Help is at hand from Automyze – our new website that takes care of everything to do with owning and maintaining your car for you.  We can let you know when your car service is due (based on age and mileage) or you can input your own specific date.   We will remind you when the date approaches, with offers from great local garages.

Where should you take your vehicle for a service?

We know it can be confusing to decide where to take your car to when it’s due a Service or repair. Choices include your local independent garage, or a franchised dealer.

The AA Garage Guide only showcases garages that meet our specific quality and standards criteria. We champion garages that are members of Motor Codes – the government-backed, self-regulatory body for the motor industry; and employ professional technicians accredited by the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) to help guide you to the best choice garage or dealer for your servicing and repair needs.

There are 4 main types of garage you could take your car to:

Franchised Dealer

These are the official dealerships, operating under the car Manufacturers such as Ford, Toyota, BMW, Audi etc. Franchised Dealers tend to be members of Motor Codes (the Trading Standards Institute endorsed scheme) and have professionally trained technicians.

Independent Garage

These are privately owned, independent businesses. Some may use original manufacturer parts, and should operate to high standards. They may also be members of industry schemes such as Motor Codes and have trained technicians.

Authorised Service Centre

These centres operate under license from the manufacturer to carry our car servicing, maintenance and repairs to manufacturer approved standards, and using use original manufacturer parts. They may also be members of industry schemes such as Motor Codes and have trained technicians.

Fast Fit

These garages are the national chains who offer a variety of services such as MOTs, Servicing, tyres and brakes and are recognised brands. They may also be members of industry schemes such as Motor Codes and have trained technicians.
